ASHLAND, VA--The Roanoke College field hockey team ran it's season-opening winning streak to four games with a 7-3 victory over the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Saturday in Ashland, VA. The Maroons are now 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The win was the fifth in row for the Maroons over Randolph-Macon. The Host school falls to 0-3, 0-2 in league play.
Holding a 3-2 lead at halftime, the Maroons saw the Yellow Jackets tie the score at three with 25:45 to play in regulation. The Maroons were unable to get on the scoreboard for the first 24 minutes of the second half until freshman
Erin Walsch (Baltimore, MD/Towson) scored her first collegiate goal, that with 11:42 to go, to give the Maroons the lead for good. The team would go on to add three more goals in the final 5:37 of the contest.
Kelley Busik (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and
Rachel Flint (Towson, MD/Towson) each had their second goals of the game in that stretch.
Erin Rayment (Bow, NH/Bow) got her first goal of the year as well.
The Maroons fell behind 1-0 just 4:40 into the contest, but four minutes later drew even on Busik's first score of the contest. Rayment had one of her two assists in the game on that goal. Two minutes later,
Sara Lundgren (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) gave the Maroons their first lead of the contest with her third goal of the season. After the Yellow Jackets tied the score at two with 19 minutes to go in the first, Flint sent the Maroons into the halftime break with a 3-2 lead on a goal with just 12 seconds to play.
Steph Calabro (Radnor, PA/Baldwin) got her first victory of the season, playing all of the 35 minutes in the second half and making six saves.
Beth Lichty (Denver, CO/St. Mary's) played the first half and made one stop.
The Maroons are at ODAC rival Washington & Lee University at 6:30pm on Wednesday evening. The game under the lights will be played at W&L's turf stadium in Lexington, VA.
