SWEET BRIAR, VA--Behind a career-high four goals from senior forward
Rachel Flint (Towson, MD/Towson), the Roanoke College field hockey team rolled to an 8-0 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Sweet Briar College on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the ODAC.
It was actually senior
Kelley Busik (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) that got the Maroons on the board, getting one of her three goals in the contest, just minutes into the game. Flint then scored the first of her four scores and Busik followed with the Maroons' third goal of the first half, scoring off of an assist from senior
Carrie Smith (Charlottesville, VA/Monticello). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Maroons scored five times in the second half.
Flint scored the team's first three goals of the second half, one of which was assisted on by
Emily Horton (McLean, VA/Langley) and another by
Erin Rayment (Bow, NH/Bow). Rayment added a second assist on Roanoke's seventh goal, Busik's third of the game, and
Kelly Lyons (White River Junction, VT/Hartford) scored the final of RC's goals.
The Maroons held the Vixens to just one shot in the contest, a shot that was stopped by Roanoke sophomore
Steph Calabro (Radnor, PA/Baldwin), who made her first appearance of the 2003 season in the game's final 35 minutes.
Roanoke returns to action this coming Saturday in a 3:00pm contest against another Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe, the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. The game will be played in Ashland, VA.
