M. Campbell - 2023

Matt Campbell

Campbell joined Roanoke College in the summer of 2023 after serving as a graduate assistant coach at ODAC rival Randolph College during the 2022 season. While at Randolph, he played a role in the development of two all-conference performers. He earned his Master’s degree in Coaching and Sport Leadership from Randolph College in May 2023.

Since arriving in Salem, Campbell has made contributions across all aspects of the program. He is heavily involved in daily player development, practice planning, and game management, while also coordinating recruiting efforts, group analytics, and academic structuring. Over his three seasons at Roanoke, Campbell has helped develop six all-conference honorees, two all-region selections, and an all-state selection, for forward Michale Ramseys 2024 campaign. The Maroons have climbed as high as 15th in the United Soccer Coaches National Rankings and have earned a top-eight regional ranking at least once in each of the past three years.

Prior to his coaching career, Campbell was a four-year student-athlete at fellow ODAC institution Virginia Wesleyan University. A consistent presence for the Marlins, he appeared in 62 games with 52 starts and served as a team captain for two seasons.

In 2021, Campbell was named the Virginia Wesleyan Sport and Recreation Professions Outstanding Student and represented the program on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management.
