SALEM, Va. - Matthew Rearick, an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Roanoke College, was announced as the new Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) for the Athletic Department on Monday morning.
"The opportunity to work more closely with the Athletic Department, its' leadership, staff, coaches and, of course, the student-athletes is extremely appealing to me," said Rearick. "I believe in what athletics brings to a student's college experience, especially having been a college athlete myself. I look forward to supporting this journey for many students to come."
Rearick has a plethora of involvement on the Roanoke campus, most recently serving as the Chairperson of the Health and Human Performance Department from 2016-24, and as the Internship Coordinator for the Health and Exercise Science majors. Additionally, Rearick is an accomplished researcher in movement science, having 17 peer-reviewed publications in journals and has advised and supported numerous student independent research experiences. Rearick holds a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Pennsylvania State University. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in Biology with a Minor in Psychology from Shippensburg University where he was also an All-Conference honoree in track & field.
