PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Roanoke College junior
Mark Samuel won three matches Friday at the NCAA Division III Nationals in Providence, Rhode Island to guarantee him All-American honors for the second-straight season. Samuel will face top-seeded Josh Wilson of Greensboro Saturday in the 141-pound semifinal round, starting at 10 a.m. The top eight finishers in each weight class earn All-American honors.
Samuel opened the day with a 13-6 win over Cole Becker from Augsburg. He had a major decision victory (11-1) against his foe from Centenary and scored a 13-11 win over Ty Bisek from Concordia-Morehead.
Jonah Paulino at 133 pounds rolled to an 11-0 major decision over Caden Frost from New England College and followed up with a 16-3 major decision against Brody Toledo from Wisconsin Oshkosh.
Isiac Paulino at 125 pounds pinned his opponent from Olivet in 2:36 in the second round. Both Paulino brothers had their outstanding seasons ended Friday night.
Xavier Preston (174) won 7-5 in the wrestleback round but was eliminated in his next match.
Vincenzo Corvetto at 184 pounds also won his first match in the consolation bracket but was bested in the next match.
