The team traveled to Washington, D.C over the weekend to compete in an international championship event where riders from countries in both North and South America compete for the title of Pan-American Champion.
Our men and women were entered in the U23 (under 23 years of age) category and raced against the best riders in all of the Americas. It was a hotly contested battle and our riders represented extremely well with
Nathaniel Gervez placing 11th overall, an incredible result for his first year as a U23 rider.
William Dodds was suffering from severe stomach issues but pushed through to finish in a solid 27th place with his teammate
Gus Lynott right behind him in 29th.
Ruby Telepak was the only team member to compete in the women's U23 race. She fought hard and held on to a 15th place finish, just one position outside of earning UCI points. For her first ever UCI race, this is an outstanding accomplishment.
"Roanoke College Cycling is gaining credibility with every big event that we enter, and it's so special to hear our team being mentioned on the loudspeaker at such high-profile events," said head coach
Shelley Olds. "This is only the first year of competition at this level for our riders, so the future is looking very bright!"
