We sent our largest team ever to Winston-Salem this past weekend for back-to-back days of CycloCross racing. 10-riders took the start Saturday and Sunday, with five in the Elite Men's race, three in the Elite Women's race and two guys in the cat 3/4 race.
The highlight of the weekend was
Nathaniel Gervez winning the Collegiate A races both days and finishing third overall in the Elite Men's races. He was technically sound, tactically saavy, and super-aggressive, making the race fast from the start and drawing out the best riders early.  Only the few that could match his speed and power were left when the dust settled.Â
"We knew Nathaniel was strong and talented, but he is also fearless and fun to watch, putting Roanoke College Cycling on everyone's radar to look out for in upcoming races," said head coach
Shelley Olds. Â
William Dodds had a breakthrough performance on Sunday. He was very consistent and smooth as he powered over the technical course. By the end of the hour-long race, he had moved himself from deep in the field all the way up fifth overall in the Elite men's field. He finished second only to his teammate, Nathaniel in the Collegiate A race.Â
On the women's side,
Ruby Telepak took the top step in the Collegiate A race on Saturday and finished third overall in the Elite women's race. A standout performance for Ruby, she was tenacious and fought hard on day two to come back from a crash and a mechanical issue that saw her move from third to 10th in a matter of seconds. She dug her way back through the field lap after lap to finish fifth overall, showing everyone how much of a fighter she is and that he will never quit.Â
Hays Edmunds represented in the Collegiate C field on Saturday, winning the race and again putting Roanoke College Cycling on the top step of the podium.
Aidan Goldberg,
Alastair Amos, and
Lauren Weigel all stood on the podiums in their respective races.
Gus Lynott,
Jensen Cervati, and
Ragan Weigel also joined in the fun and competed both days. "It was a hugely successful weekend for the team, and we continue to grow together as a unit while we proudly represent the College on our bikes," quipped coach Olds.Â

Next up, Pan-American Championships in Washington, D.C. in two weeks.Â
