Roanoke wrestling splits with ranked opponents in NJ

The short story: The Roanoke College wrestling team split a pair of non-conference dual matches Saturday against ranked opponents at Stevens Institute of Technology. The seventh-ranked Maroons fell 20-16 in the opening match against No. 8 Vermont State Castleton, but rallied for a 21-19 win over the host school, ranked No. 21 in the nation.
How it happened:
Jonah Paulino and
David Reid each won both matches on the afternoon. Paulino, at 133 pounds, pinned his foe from Castleton in 2:19 in the opener and followed up with another pin against Stevens. Reid won a pair of decisions at 165 pounds.
Junior
Nicholas Cook took to the mat with his team trailing 19-18 against Stevens at 285 pounds and won the match for his team with a 14-11 decision.
Josh Noble won via technical fall at 125 against Stevens and
Andrew McDougal had a major decision at 157 pounds.
Lorenzo Pellot-Vazquez had a major decision win at 197 against Castleton.
Next Time:
After a week off, the Maroons head to Pennsylvania for two competitions. Roanoke wrestlers will compete at the New Standard Invitational in York on Dec. 6-7 and also at the Blue Jay Classic in Elizabethtown on Dec. 7. Â
