Lacrosse was Ebeling's favorite of all athletic endeavors while at Roanoke. Played varsity lacrosse for four years, 1971-75 as a defenseman.
In 1973, Ebeling was selected to the All-Mason Dixon and NCAA Southeast Regional teams. In 1974, he was selected to the All-Mason Dixon, NCAA Southeast and first-team All-American teams. In 1975, he was selected to participate in the North-South game; to the All-Mason Dixon, to the NCAA Southeast Regional, and to the second-team All-American teams.
Ebeling became the first Roanoke lacrosse player to be named to the NCAA All-American First-Team in 1974 and to receive All-American honors in consecutive seasons.
