Roanoke College

Played guard and tackle on the football team.  Called the "hardest, surest, swiftest charging man on the line." Stood in a class by himself when it came to opening a hole for a line plunge.  The squad only lost one game during the two years that he played.  Played guard and center and it was said that Bonham was "big and able, fast and accurate"

Also played tennis and basketball while at Roanoke.
