As a transfer student, Douthat quickly established himself as a key player for the Maroon cagers on the hardwood.  Sixth man his first year on the team with the "Five Smart Boys," who went to the finals of the NIT in Madison Square Garden. 

Selected to the All-State basketball squad, was captain and leading scorer of the Maroons during the 1940-41 season.  Described as "a consummate ball handler, feeder, and dead eyed shooter." 

Dominated intramural racquet sports as tennis and badminton champion throughout your three year career at Roanoke.
