Hulvey has distinguished himself in the field of sports medicine.

Has worked with high school teams in Southwest Virginia and Emory and Henry College. 

Received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association.

First recipient of the Frank C. McCue, III Award from the Virginia High School Coaches Association.

Faithfully served as member of the Sports Medicine Committee of the Medical Society of Virginia, Sports Medicine Committee of the Virginia Orthopedic Society, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Contributed to sports medicine through the presentation of scientific papers.
