An all around athlete, Williams excelled in basketball, football, and baseball while at Roanoke. One of the last athletes to win letters in both basketball and football during all four years.
Williams w captain of the football and basketball teams in 1930 while President of the Monogram Club in 1931.
He was also selected as an honorable mention All-State halfback in football; top rebounder in the Virginia Basketball League. Along with these accolades, Williams was a star shortstop for two seasons on the Maroon baseball team.
