A member of Roanoke’s outstanding golf teams from 1977-1981, Hitt laid the foundation for the Maroons’ unprecedented success as a freshman in 1977-78.
He led Roanoke to a first place finish in 1978 College Division Virginia State Intercollegiate Championship, winning medalist honors in his first year with the Maroons.
Earned first-team All-ODAC honors as Roanoke received an invitation to play in the 1978 NCAA Division II championship tournament. Hitt won his second state championship in 1980, earning first-team All-ODAC honors as a junior.
In 1980-81, Hitt capped his career by earning second-team All-American honors as the Maroons finished second at the 1981 NCAA Division III championship tournament in Pinehurst, N.C.
He earned first-team All-ODAC honors for the third time as the Maroons captured the 1981 ODAC championship by 23 strokes at Countryside Golf Course in Roanoke.
